Action Pistol Safety Brief

The match is run on a Cold Range. Weapon unloaded, un-cocked and
magazine out/cylinder empty. The WEAPON REMAINS HOLSTERED
except when on the firing line.

180 degree rule. When firing the muzzle of the weapon will always point
down range and NEVER CROSS A 180 DEGREE LINE created by the
firing line.

Prior to each stage, shooters will gather at the firing line and the course of fire for each stage will be explained by the RO (Range Officer), and questions answered.

When the shooter is called to the line the following dialogue will be conducted:

The shooter will be asked “Do you understand the course of fire?” If the
shooter has any questions this is the last chance to ask. There are no dumb questions.

The shooter will be informed “You may load and make ready.” At this point
the shooter may un-holster, load, make safe and then re-holster their weapon WITH THEIR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER.

When the RO sees the weapon safely re-holstered the shooters will be queried “ Shooter ready?”

If the shooter confirms they are ready a random start timer will be activated. A buzzer will beep from 2 to 5 seconds later.  At the signal the shooter will draw the weapon WITH THEIR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER  and engage the first target and then all remaining targets specified for the course of fire.

If a misfire or safety violation occurs the RO will call a “Cease Fire” immediately.

Upon completion of the course of fire the shooter will be instructed to “Show Clear”.

The shooter will remove the magazine, eject any loaded round from the chamber, display the weapon to the RO with the chamber empty and magazine removed.

The shooter will then be instructed to “slide down, hammer down and holster.”

For revolvers the procedure will be the same except the cylinder will be opened. All cartridges spent or not, ejected and the empty cylinder displayed to the RO.

The line will be declared safe. Shooters may then go forward to score targets, reset steel and pick up brass. Your help on the line with these tasks is greatly appreciated.

Your help keeping score, noting misses and recording times is appreciated.

NOTE: If you do not have any of the required equipment come out and shoot anyway. There will always be something you can borrow or something you might like to shoot for particular stage. Bring ammo.
